How To Help.

Save The Vanishing Species Stamp

There are so many ways to help conserve tigers in the wild! Whether you're a student, alumni, or just interested passerby, you can help!

On September 20, 2011, the U.S. Postal Service unveiled the image of theSave the Vanishing Species Stamp, a beautiful Amur tiger cub with an amazing facial structure, designed by Nancy Stahl. The price of the stamp marginally exceeds the cost of first class postage. Proceeds made from the stamp are being used to benefit wild endangered animals around the world - including tigers, rhinos, gorillas, Asian and African elephants, and marine turtles.

This stamp has been a success so far resulting in over $2.5 million raised so far benefiting the Multinational Conservation Species Fund.

Big Cat Public Safety Act

The bill would effectively ban the private ownership of big cats. Exceptions include AZA accredited zoos and wildlife sanctuaries where they can be properly cared for and sheltered, and would only allow breeding at accredited zoos, along with some research or educational institutions. Current owners would be allowed to keep the cats they currently have provided they register their cats with USDA but they would not be allowed to acquire or breed more. This “grandfather” clause is necessary because there is no place for the animals to go if owners were forced to give them up, and the prospect of confiscation might create an incentive to kill animals and illegally sell their parts. Violators of the law could have their animals confiscated along with any vehicles or equipment used to aid in their activity, and could face stiff penalties including fines up to $20,000 and up to five years in jail.

Global Anti-Poaching Act (H.R. 2494)

Illegal wildlife trafficking is one of the most lucrative global crimes, generating $8-10 billion annually. Highly organized and sophisticated crime networks like Al-Shabaab and the Lord’s Resistance Army are taking advantage of this lucrative business to fund human, drugs, and arms trafficking around the globe. With the Global Anti-Poaching Act recently advancing through the House, it is critical the Senate passes similar anti-poaching legislation to address the global poaching crisis.
